Oxytocin, translated as "love hormone" in pop culture, has had its title challenged by a recent neurobiological study. For decades, neurobiologists have been highly fascinated with oxytocin because there are no mammalian species which do not have oxytocin receptors in their brains. This fact indicates that they must be serving a very critical purpose.
