As history repeats itself youtube has a thing for controversial CEOs just like you for their red flags. Before leaving Wojcick handed over the reign to the yet another Indian-American CEO (might as well sell being a CEO as a part of the dream US package now).

The New leadership at the company, Neal Mohan is thought to be a positive change for the company as he plans to integrate Web3 Technology to make the platform more transparent and secure, something Wojcicki was often publicly criticized for especially in the case of child privacy issues and content moderation.

Before we dive further into the world of technology and controversial statements let me tell you more about Web3 Technology and how it could be utilized on such an active platform like Youtube. Unlike Apple, Google has never shied away from experimenting. One of the many things they have been recently experimenting is dApps (decentralized Apps). To understand what dApps are we first need to know about Web3.

Web3 Technology is the next evolution of the internet which aims to create a decentralized web which makes the whole experience more safer and secure for the user. Web3 relies on blockchain technology which is essentially a software ledger which maintains a record for every transaction. Apps made with integration of Web3 have been termed as dApps, they run on a decentralized network(where multiple entities serve as the main hub for participants) rather than a centralized server(where everything is controlled by a single entity). Since these dApps cant be controlled by a single entity it makes them more secure and transparent and allows creators and users to have more control over their security.

In a nutshell Web3 is democracy but for the internet, by the people , for the people to the people.

Web3 also makes the whole payment process secure as it allows the use of digital currencies like Bitcoin and Ethereum which are also based on BlockChain Technology which give users full control over their information.

Youtube has had a lot of video sharing platforms competitors in the last couple of years and a lot of these platforms have used blockchain technology to make their platform more safe and secure like Theta and LBRY. And to stand a chance in this exhaustingly competitive market it needs to keep on innovating and changing. It may never stand a chance and may become old news like Facebook (I mean who uses facebook nowadays other than middle aged uncle aunties now?)

In conclusion Web3 like democracy right now remains like an ideal dream, the work that needs to be done in order for it to be properly integrated on a huge platform like youtube is massive and is complicated to understand which brings a problem on the designers and users end along with an absence of proper authority (i.e imagine no constitution for moderation no proper written laws.) Wouldn’t it be difficult to run a platform of this scale when there is no central entity that takes decisions regarding the matters of copyright infringement and content moderation. So I leave you with the question: is this what Youtube really needs to focus on right now?(In my opinion 2 unskippable ads in a row hata do instantly more users XD)
